The Retirement Funded Ratio

The One Thing
Actor Jack Palance said it best in the movie City Slickers when explaining his secret of life to Billy Crystal. For those of us interested in retiring some day, I recommend focusing on the Retirement Funded Ratio.

Hypothetical Balance Sheet - For Educational Purposes Only

I recently created this YouTube video to help educate investors on the importance saving enough to cover essential living expenses in retirement using the household balance sheet approach. This simple, intuitive and flexible framework can assist retirement seeking investors determine if they have sufficient assets to fund their desired lifestyle in retirement.

Platform As A Service
What gives this old style planning approach a new twist is the use of the cloud-based Google Apps platform to facilitate real-time retirement data access from most Internet-connected devices. More importantly, the balance sheet can be shared with trusted persons through their browsers to promote better collaboration between clients and their advisors.

The idea behind Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a simple one. Instead of creating new software applications from scratch, utilize a web-based platform (like Google Apps) with all the essential web plumbing already built-in to extend it into custom application verticals (like retirement-specific balance sheets). Finally, a grand idea whose time has come.
